Mixed-Media Mondays

It's Monday once again! This week's mixed-media is a mix-up of textures that I thought were fun. I'm having quite fun experimenting.  This week's is a mash-up of pictures from some of my travels.

If you have any ideas for me next week, I'd love to hear them!

Strawberry Paperweight

I was browsing some of the blogs I follow, and I came across a picture of a bunch of rocks painted to look like strawberries on Miss Indie's blog.

I had to make them. And I did. So here is how I made them!

A strawberry-shaped rock, the right colors to mix to get the shades I wanted, and two different brushes- a big brush and a smaller one for details.

After painting the entire rock red, I painted little green leaves at the top.

Then I outlined the leaves in dark green and gave the leaves some texture. I also drew little white seeds.

The last step was to paint little black dots at the top of each seed. Easy as that! =]

I think I'm going to paint some other fruit-inspired paperweights. Any suggestions? Hope you all had a great weekend!

Little Drawer

I found this tiny drawer somewhere and I decided to make it into a tiny little shelf for my rings. I have yet to mount it to the wall, but I wanted to share it anyways. I'm thinking of hanging it right by my door so I can just grab out of it on my way out!  Or I might set it in my window sill with my other containers for bobby pins and headbands.

Any other placement ideas? I'd love some input!=]

Yes that is Emma Stone in the magazine. I was reading while making the craft!

I cut a strip of fun paper to line the bottom of the drawer and I found some cute flower decals that I glued to the front of the drawer.

Now all that is left is to put it somewhere!

Finished inside:

Finished outside:

Hope your weekend is great! =]

I made a skirt!

I'm finally posting it because I finally finished it! Let me tell you, it was not easy. I now know why designers like making clothes for models without any curves! I kept adjusting my skirt because it wouldn't fit right. It was loose in some areas, and tight in others and it was pretty frustrating, but it is finished.

I wish I could've had pictures of the step-by-step process, but seeing as how it changed so much, I thought it would be kind of pointless and misleading. It's cute and it fits. Next time I just need to actually use a pattern! My goal is to make a skirt this year that doesn't have to be re-done 100 times, and that is the right pattern for my body type.

Here it is:

And this is my bow I got at this really cute shop in Boston called Stone Flower. =]

Anyways, hope my sewing troubles amuse you. Stick around and I'll eventually get it right!

Mixed-Media Monday!

Alright followers, I'm starting something new. It's called Mixed-Media Monday! I was inspired by my friend Andrew Moore's Typography Tuesday and so this is my trial run of my own rendition of it.

Let me know what you think! Bear in mind, it's my first one, so cut me some slack. =] I'm just having some fun!

p.s. I finished my skirt!

An Apology And Update

Time is not my friend as of now. I am so sorry for neglecting my blog. It's been a crazy two weeks. All of a sudden my schoolwork attacked me from every class, I've been looking for an internship, and I've stepped up from my ARA duties to RA while my RA is home for surgery. It has been a whirlwind and a chaotic blur.

First I would like to say....dun dun dun the project I was sewing in the previous post is finished. Well, I have to finish the button holes, but aside from that, it's done! It should be up in a day or so. Also, I have lots of ideas for new posts! Inspiration is swirling all around me and I'm trying to write it all down so I can remember to do it and post it.

I also had another thought. I would LOVE to do product reviews and such and post them here for my viewers to see. So if any of you have something that you create or sell and want me to promote it on my blog, e-mail me at KateLovesTheKey@gmail.com and I would love to make that happen!

Ok ok. Want to see some of what I've been up to?

I've been working with the production crew at my school: (That redhead is me)

I've been designing web pages for my web design class:

I've been reading this book (so so good):

I've done a couple photo shoots of couples around Valentines Day (See the rest of them here):

And among other things, I've been playing around with some graphic designs. Here's a pretty rough rough draft of one:

So anyways, hopefully I can get back into my routine of updating regularly! Wish me luck and thanks for sticking around during my absence!
